Pro Tools Users Honored at Academy AwardsDigidesign is pleased to report that at this year's 79th annual Academy Awards, all of the films nominated in the Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Picture categories feature audio created using Digidesign's Pro Tools|HD system. "From the beginning of Dreamgirls, the music doesn't stop," remarks Paul Rabjohns, supervising music editor for Dreamgirls, which, in addition to winning the Oscar for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing, was also nominated for Golden Globe and BAFTA awards. "We loaded each Pro Tools system with hundreds of audio tracks, pushed them to their technical limits, and they never choked or lost accuracy. When I'm deep in an editing or recording session, Pro Tools becomes an extension of my right arm. I can throw anything at it and it gets the job done. For any big film or studio recording project, Pro Tools is the standard, and the only system I'd ever use." Charles Maynes, sound effects designer and field recording engineer on Letters from Iwo Jima, which won the Oscar for Achievement in Sound Editing as well as two Golden Reel awards for sound effects and dialog, generously attributes a small part of his team's success to Pro Tools: "Pro Tools allows me to do what I need to do in as elegant a way as I've ever done it. The plug-ins are really remarkable in their scope as well as their sound quality. Recording in Pro Tools definitely contributed to our ability to make the good sounds that the Academy ultimately decided were worthy of the award." "As the demands in the world of sound for picture have grown, we've continued to work hard to deliver an ultra-reliable platform, with the features and functionality that allow our users to express their creativity and work more efficiently," remarks Dave Lebolt, general manager of Digidesign. "The moving and impactful soundtracks, dialog, sound design, and effects associated with these films are a testament to what a powerful system like Pro Tools|HD can deliver when used by extremely talented and dedicated people. We are immensely proud to be associated with so many great films and gifted production teams."
