Atomic Design Thinks Big For 2007 Tribeca Film Festival

Seven larger-than-life director's chairs, built by Atomic Design, Inc., dressed up the streets of New York City as part of the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival earlier this month.

American Express had the seven 14' tall interactive director's chairs installed throughout New York City; each featured helpful information about the festival. Verizon Wireless provided text-to-screen technology giving festival-goers the unique opportunity to become real-time film critics by texting their movie reviews directly to plasma screen displays on the chairs.

Although this is not the first project Atomic has worked on for the festival, it is certainly the largest. Each aluminum-framed chair and weighs 3,000 pounds. Atomic Design's Conway Allison engineered the giant chairs and called upon SETCO to build the frames. Atomic then built the chair seats and oversaw the installation of each chair, one of which was located in the Northeast end of Times Square.

For the fourth year in a row, Atomic has worked for Event Resources andMomentum World Wide to promote American Express at the Tribeca Film Festival. Soren West, president of Atomic Design, says, "It has been a fantastic opportunity to be a part of the Tribeca Film Festival for American Express. We have worked with Event Resources on many projects, and they always produce superior events." In addition to the Times Square location, the chairs were on display from April 25 through May 6, 2007 at 33rd & 3rd Avenue; 23rd & 9th Avenue; 6th Avenue & Canal Street; Franklin Street between Varick and West Broadway; The World Financial Center on North Cove; and City Hall at Broadway between Murray and Warren Streets.
