Powersoft Introduces the K20 AmplifierPowersoft is introducing the K20 digital amplification system. It measures one rack space and is capable of producing 20,000W. The unit's ability to produce this kind of wattage is important, but its capacity to manage the power from the mains efficiently no matter what the impedance load is the key to its consistently superior performance, the company says. Powersoft's regulated switch mode power supply with power factor correction (PFC) ensures that 95% of the power goes to the speakers with less than 5% dissipated in heat. This enables the K20 to produce full power no matter what the mains voltage, from 95 to 265V and from 50/60Hz, while running cooler than traditional power amps. Because the K20 is a single space design and runs cooler, no spaces are required between amps saving rack space. The amp's dramatically reduced size also results in space-efficient racking and cost-effective truck pack, the company adds. PFC enables the amp's current performance to be coherent and in phase with the mains voltage while also maximizing the power drawn from the mains. Finally, the K20 represents a viable solution for unstable AC power sources in different venues and installations. Exceptional damping capability is ensured at high current and low impedance. With the K20, 2 Ohm operation is no longer an emergency solution, it is billed as a realistic option. In addition to traditional digital signal processing, Powersoft's patented DSP controlled damping factor adjustment feature can completely eliminate the impedance and reactive load condition caused by long cable lengths, thus maximizing low frequency performance and coherence for a tight, highly defined low end response. With KDSP, the user can also configure the system with precise crossover, equalization, and protection settings for specific loudspeakers. KDSP also offers additional voltage peak limiting and thermal power limiting, each with their own variable attack and release times. The K20 also features an LCD matrix display; comprehensive user-friendly front panel display menu with self-diagnostic and error message tracking; temperature forecasting; a built-in (RS 485 interface) for full diagnostic, operational setting and system monitoring; smart card setting, parameters, and upgrade functionality.
