Serapid to Introduce New Push/Pull Chain at USITT 2007Serapid is introducing a new push chain to be used for seating systems at the USITT Conference and Stage Expo, March 15-17 in Phoenix. The chain features a special design of the original system, and will be used in telescopic seating systems and retractable bleacher systems. The new telescoping seating chain is a specially designed rigid push chain system, with the ability to move a horizontal load along a floor. Just like Serapid's original rigid chain systems, this chain is rigid in one direction, and will become compacted in the other direction, so it can be stored in a minimal amount of space. For the seating system, wheels are placed on the chain to facilitate rolling on the floor. The wheels are made of a non-marking rubber, and ride along the ground, and can glide across any type of flooring - hardwood, tile, carpet, or concrete. By automating the opening and closing of the seating systems, multipurpose venues (stadiums, concert halls, convention centers, etc), will be able to optimize their seating capacity, or have plenty of floor space, depending on the nature of the even, the company sayst. Several prototype systems have been designed for companies in Illinois and Germany. One system featured a chain extending 50' moving at a speed of up to 30' per minute with 1,500lbs of thrust force.
