InSync and Martin Audio Support Obama Inauguration AbroadThe Democrats Abroad London Inaugural Ball, held in the Royal Lancaster Hotel's Nine Kings Suite, was one of the many high-profile celebrations for newly inaugurated President Obama and Vice President Biden. The London event was one of many organized by Democrats Abroad around the world, and included footage of the inauguration ceremony plus a live band -- with the technical production infrastructure designed and provided by Insync Productions, using a Martin Audio PA rig. Scott Tompkins, Insync's managing director, said the Martin Audio Blackline system was installed to service the 1,400 American guests (and their friends), with the technical infrastructure remaining in place for three consecutive nights for other planned events. Guests watched a recording of the inauguration on a double front-projection screen, while the speeches and recorded sound were relayed through a series of flown Martin Audio Blackline F12 and F8 enclosures, with floor-mounted WS218X subs providing bass extension. Martin Audio's LE12JB wedges were used for monitoring. "Although in one sense putting in all the communications, video, stage, lighting, and sound was standard fare for us, I have never done anything quite like this," said Scott. "Everyone was focused on the screens during the inauguration, which took a feed from CNN." Afterwards a live band performed for guests in the Westbourne Suite until 2am. The night following the President Obama celebration, the technical infrastructure serviced the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy charity dinner, and was on duty again 24 hours later at a Thomson Reuters event.
