Constable, Fry, Piper, Rosenthal, and Williams Take Olivier Design Awards The Olivier Awards, given to honor excellence in the West End Theatre, were handed out last night. On the design front, Paule Constable won in the lighting design category for the Donmar Warehouse revival of Enid Bagnold's The Chalk Garden; this is Constable's third win in six years. The costume designers Tom Piper and Emma Williams won for their work on Royal Shakespeare Company's The Histories, a cycle of Shakespeare's history plays. The American set designer Todd Rosenthal won for the National Theatre production of August: Osage County -- which is, essentially, a transfer of the Steppenwolf Theatre/Broadway staging. And Gareth Fry took the sound design award for Black Watch; the latter, which was been seen in New York twice, also was named best new play.
