Winners of Olivier Awards Announced

Three Broadway-bound productions earned design nods at the Olivier Awards, which celebrate achievement in London's West End Theatre.

In the set design category, Miriam Buether (scenery) and 59 Productions (video) were cited for Stranger Things: The First Shadow, an origin story of the popular Netflix series, which is eyeing Broadway during the 2024-25 season. In the lighting category, Jack Knowles won for Jamie Lloyd's revival of the musical Sunset Boulevard, which opens on Broadway on October 20. The costume design award went to Marg Horwell, for The Picture of Dorian Gray, a solo version of Oscar Wilde's tale starring the Succession star Sarah Snook; it, too, is said to be shopping for a New York theatre. The sound design award went to Adam Fisher for Sunset Boulevard.

The award for best new play went to James Graham's soccer drama Dear England, while the best musical award was given to Operation Mincemeat, the humorous retelling of a World War II deception operation.Sunset Boulevard, starring Nicole Scherzinger and featuring a starkly contemporary staging, took the most awards by far with a total of seven.
