In Memoriam: Mike Clark

Michael David Clark

Lighting&Sound America has learned that the well-known industry figure Michael David Clark died on December 30 in Cesena, Italy; he was 77. According to newspaper reports, he had recently broken his pelvis following a fall; he passed away in hospital, awaiting an operation.

Born in Scotland, Clark arrived in Italy at the end of the 1960s, already working as a live sound engineer. He settled in Italy, raising a family and building a career. He spent his early Italian years in Rome, mixing for Mal Ryder, a British singer who enjoyed a substantial Italian following. Later, Clark worked as a DJ in discos along the Riviera. In Rimini, where he settled and raised a family, he was a DJ at the Paradiso disco from 1973 - 1980; he also spent 20 years working at Dimar Dischi, a famed record shop. Later, he became a noted trade journalist; his stories were featured in various industry publications, including Light & Sound International and Lighting&Sound America.

Clark also collaborated with several pro audio manufacturers. "During the last 30 years, Mike was the most precious resource for our R&D and marcomms departments," says Michele Noselli, of Outline. "A brilliant, generous, and extremely reliable person, Mike translated intricate patent texts for us, doing it with surgical precision, elaborating the texts and making them essentially clear, hence effective, thanks to his ability to ask the right questions to refine the whole work...and he never got tired of calling you five, six times a day, only to deliver a flawless piece. And we always counted on him! We are sincerely and profoundly grateful for this. Ciao Mike, thank you for everything. Have a safe journey."

Clark is survived by his wife Daniela, daughter Virginia, and two grandchildren, Gabriele and Giovanni.
