Gefen's New Fiber Optics Extender Sends DVI 12 Kilometers Gefen is showing its new DVI FM-1500 fiber optics extender at InfoComm, June 15-17 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. Ultra-long distances up to 12 kilometers (7.45 miles) are reached using either a single or multi-mode fiber optic cable, streamlining cable costs with today's highest quality method of signal extension, the company says. The use of a fiber optic cable also ensures that EMI (electromagnetic interference) is eliminated. Two tiny transceivers are connected at the local and remote locations, linked by a single strand of fiber optic cable terminated in SC connectors. Virtual EDID programming ensures a constant synching of the video source to the display. High resolution video is supported up to 1920x1200/1080p. It works with all computers, games, or any audio/video device equipped with DVI. Designed for professional applications that demand a high performance method of DVI extension, the Gefen DVI FM-1500 allows users to easily access their audio/video source from a remote location.
