The Evening Standard Awards, which honor achievement in the London theatre, were given out on Sunday, November 30. The awards are sponsored by the newspaper The Evening Standard.

This year, production designer Es Devlin took the design award for her work on American Psycho, a new musical based on the controversial novel by Bret Easton Ellis. The musical was scheduled for production at the Off Broadway theatre Second Stage, but was pulled from the theatre's schedule by Act 4 Entertainment, the producing organization that developed the musical, in hopes of heading directly to Broadway.

In other news, the director Jeremy Herrin won for Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies, both of which will be seen on Broadway this spring. The Beyond Theatre Award went to Here Lies Love, the disco musical about Imelda Marcos which premiered at New York's Public Theatre and subsequently played the National in London. The best musical award went to The Scottsboro Boys, in the same production that opened at New York's Vineyard Theatre and subsequently transferred to Broadway.
