Christie, Clark, Owen, Zuber Take Olivier Design Awards

The Olivier Awards, which honor achievement in the London theatre, were given out last night at Royal Albert Hall. Set designer Bunny Christie took the award for the West End revival of the musical Company. The production, directed by Marianne Elliott, reimagines the lead character, the marriage-averse Bobby, as a female. The acclaimed production also won awards for musical revival and for supporting players Patti LuPone and Jonathan Bailey.

The award for lighting design went to Jon Clark for The Inheritance. Written by the American playwright Matthew Lopez, the drama, which is suggested by E. M. Forster's Howard's End, deals with gay relationships years after the AIDS epidemic. It also took awards for new play, lead actor Kyle Soller, and director Stephen Daldry.

The award for sound design went to Gareth Owen for the West End production of the Broadway musical Come from Away, which was also cited for new musical, choreography, and music.

Catherine Zuber won for the costumes for The King and I, a West End transfer of the acclaimed Lincoln Center Theatre revival.
