My Neighbour Totoro Sweeps Olivier Design Awards

The Royal Shakespeare Company production of My Neighbour Totoro, based on the classic film from Studio Ghibli, swept all four design categories at the Olivier Awards, which honors achievement in London's West End Theatre. The winners include Kimie Nakano (costumes), Tony Gayle (sound), Tom Pye (scenery), and Jessica Hung Han Yun (lighting).

The production has been praised for recreating onstage the distinctive style of Studio Ghibli's films.

Perhaps highlighting the transatlantic nature of the awards, the winner for best musical was the revival of Oklahoma!, directed by Daniel Fish and seen on Broadway in 2019. Another big winner, the drama Prima Facie, took the award for best play; star Jodie Cromer was named best actress; the production begins previews in New York on April 11, ahead of an April 23 opening.
