Vu Technologies Expands its Virtual Studio Network to Nashville with a Massive LED Soundstage

Vu Technologies owns and operates advanced virtual production soundstages utilizing proprietary, patent-pending technologies that empower directors to shoot their talent in photorealistic LED volumes.

Vu Technologies, North American provider of LED volumes for the film, video, and advertising industries, announced its Nashville, Tennessee studio has opened for business. The new 16,000 sq. ft. Vu Nashville studio is the latest addition to the company's portfolio of corporately owned virtual production studios.

Vu's Nashville studio has been established in response to strong customer demand. "Nashville has become an incredible destination for media and entertainment and we believe it is the perfect location to expand our network," says Tim Moore, Vu Technologies' CEO and co-founder. "Our new Nashville studio has been built in partnership with Citation Support who has a long-standing reputation in the Nashville production industry, and is designed to accommodate the most challenging production requirements of our clients."

Tennessee's film and TV industry is thriving, and the Tennessee Entertainment Commission offers 25% cash rebates on all Tennessee labor and production services for qualified expenditures, including Vu Nashville's proprietary 123 x 20 foot (38m x 6m) virtual production LED volume, which is semi-enclosed and can be theatrically lit from above the LED ceiling. While Vu did not utilize any state support for the Vu Nashville studio, Tennessee's generous incentives are available for compliant productions shot in the studio.

Vu Technologies owns and operates advanced virtual production soundstages utilizing proprietary, patent-pending technologies that empower directors to shoot their talent in photorealistic LED volumes. "Vu Studios provide deeply immersive virtual environments for actors to perform as if they are on location," says Moore.

"Vu Studios represent so much more than just our advanced LED panels," says Jon Davila, president and co-founder of Vu Technologies. "Vu has invested substantially in R&D, integrating camera tracking and real-time rendering applications to create immersive virtual environments for actors to perform in geographically diverse studios in real time." Vu's deep integration of Mo-Sys camera tracking technology, Mark Roberts Motion Control, Epic Games' Unreal Engine, NVIDIA GPUs and other integration partners' systems allow effectively realistic backgrounds to be generated in real-time, rendered from the point of view of the moving camera with perfect parallax.

"The 'network effect' of Vu's Virtual Studio Network acts as a productivity and cost savings multiplier," says Moore. "Directors and producers achieve unprecedented time and money savings by shooting in Vu's photo realistic, fully-immersive virtual environments anywhere in our Virtual Studio Network."

Moore continues, "Vu is on a mission to make the world's largest virtual studio network. This is why it is imperative to offer several new studios along the east and west coasts this quarter, like Nashville and Las Vegas. With a nationwide Virtual Studio Network in the US, producers and directors no longer need to move the entire cast and crew in one studio or location. They enjoy the game-changing savings, enhanced creativity and more controlled safety from the convenience of their choice of city."

Davila says, "The creative opportunity that Vu Studios provides to clients has dramatically improved their overall economics. In 2021, Vu was delighted to host clients such as Mercedes, Apple, The Mill, Disney, and WWE, and we expect our clientele to continue to grow exponentially this year."

The Vu Nashville studio offers the very latest in Vu's technology and integration, including the world's first Vu In-Panel Tracking Display, which was announced in January 2021. Also unique to Vu is an innovative system which allows Vu Studio soundstages to be theatrically lit from above the enclosed volume. "Directors and DPs can light their virtual production LED volume scenes according to the skill and knowledge acquired over their careers," says Davila.

Virtual production, a new and burgeoning sector of the professional film and video industry, offers and blends both Extended Reality and Mixed Reality technologies in advanced studio facilities. "We believe within five to ten years the idea of shooting on location or with a green screen will be a thing of the past. The paradigm shift to shooting in virtual production studios will forever disrupt and improve the way content is made in the film and TV industry," says Moore.

Vu Technologies recently raised the largest seed investment round in Tampa Bay, FL history, with a $10 million investment from Minneapolis-based technology company ADX Labs in December 2021.
