The Lir Academy Partners with Clear-Com and Tyrell to Augment Theatre Training Program

Lir Academy students utilizing Clear-Com products in their academic work.

Clear-Com, a provider of wired, wireless, and IP communication solutions, and its long-term channel partner Tyrell, have joined forces to provide The Lir National Academy of Dramatic Art with state-of-the-art production communication solutions and training workshops to educate theatre students to an international standard of excellence.

The Lir Academy offers stage management and technical theatre courses at Trinity College Dublin. Working with Clear-Com and Tyrell, The Lir's students will receive training using Clear-Com's Encore Partyline System main stations, wired beltpacks and headsets, while Tyrell's technical team will provide facilitated workshops to The Lir's students during the coming year.

Barry Conway, director of technical training, The Lir Academy, said, "Giving students access to equipment such as that provided by Tyrell and Clear-Com means students graduating from The Lir leave with relevant knowledge and expertise for employment in the real-world. Practice-based learning is strong to The Lir's core ethos and partnerships with world-renowned companies such as Tyrell and Clear-Com ensure that this learning is at its best."

The company says Clear-Com's intercom systems are trusted around the world for reliable and clear production communications in live performances and live events. Current productions relying on Clear-Com solutions include Disney's Aladdin, The Lion King, and Blue Man Group.

Bob Boster, president, Clear-Com, said, "Our legacy is in live performance and we have nearly 50 years of experience with the special needs of the theatrical user. Many thousands of up-and-coming production students have learned about the importance of intercom for the success of their collaborative efforts by using Clear-Com's partyline intercoms. It is a true privilege to take part in this program with Tyrell and The Lir in supporting the next generation, not only of technical theatre students, but of the broader craft as a whole on the Lir's stages."

Bryan Malone, managing director, Tyrell, said, "Giving access to the leaders of tomorrow using the best practices of today is paramount to ensuring Ireland's positioning when it comes to worldwide standards of excellence in communication for live performance. Tyrell and Clear-Com are invested in working with academies of excellence such as The Lir, engaging with the next generation of theatre-makers and technicians during their formative years of on-the-ground training and being part of young peoples' skills development in the industry."
