ADJ Launches Focus Flex L7

ADJ's Focus Flex L7

Building on the success of the original Focus Flex -- the compact, quick and punchy LED-powered moving head luminaire launched earlier this year -- ADJ introduces the new Focus Flex L7. Featuring the same casing design and feature set as the original version, this new model features 4-in-1 red, green, blue and lime LEDs to deliver both increased output and a higher CRI.

The Focus Flex L7 is powered by seven potent 40W RGBL color mixing LEDs that are positioned behind a precision-engineered lens assembly. The inclusion of a lime chip within the LED, alongside the primary red, green, and blue colors, allows the fixture to deliver an output of 3,500 lumens (increased from 3,000 on the original Focus Flex) as well as a higher CRI of 84 (compared to the 78 of the original model). This increased CRI renders colors more accurately when the fixture is used as a wash to illuminate scenery, décor, or performers, which is particularly important to ensure natural skin tones and enhanced depth.

Through mixing the intensity of the four LED chips, a huge gamut of output colors can be created to suit any mood or desired look. In addition, by controlling the seven LEDs independently, the fixture can be used to generate impressive pixel-mapped effects. For applications where DMX channels are limited but some pixel control is still required, both 5-zone and 3-zone DMX control mode options are also available.

All of the LEDs used to construct the Focus Flex are color calibrated to ensure uniform output of fixtures from different batches. These energy efficient LEDs offer a long average operational life of 50,000 hours, which effectively removes the inconvenience and expense of lamp replacement. Other advantages of LED technology include reduced heat -- which helps to ensure the temperature doesn't become uncomfortably hot for performers on stage -- and reduced power consumption -- the maximum draw of the fixture is just 337W @ 120V.

Designed to provide lighting designers with both flexibility and creativity, the Focus Flex L7 is capable of generating both wide washes and narrow beam effects. Its motorized zoom function allows the beam to be altered remotely between a wide 55° field angle and narrow 6-degree field angle. The fixture's extremely quick motor movement allows for the creation of stunning high-impact aerial effects, while 16-bit fine motor control ensures precise positioning.

As with all ADJ's color mixing LED fixtures, each of the four LED elements can be dimmed independently via DMX to allow the creation of a wide palette of output colors. In addition, to aid with quick and easy programming, the Focus Flex L7 is pre-programmed with 64 color macros. It also features a convenient Virtual CMY mode, which allows control alongside native CMY color mixing fixtures using hardware/software CMY color picker/pallete tools, as well as a Virtual Foreground and Background Color Wheel control. Finally, the fixture also allows accurate and convenient selection of white light output with variable color temperature of between 2,700K and 10,000K. This can be accessed either via linear control from a dedicated DMX channel or a collection of ten convenient presets.

On the rear panel of the fixture are locking power input and thru connections, allowing the power supply for multiple units to be connected to a single outlet. The rear of the fixture is also home to 5-pin DMX input and output sockets as well as a wireless transceiver compatible with ADJ's WiFLY EXR wireless DMX protocol, allowing it to receive a DMX signal wirelessly from a compatible WiFLY transmitter or another WiFLY-equipped fixture over a distance of up to 2,500' / 700m (line of sight). The fixture also supports the RDM protocol, which allows for remote DMX addressing and the feeding back of fixture operating status information to a compatible DMX control solution.

On the front panel is a large backlit LCD menu display, with six corresponding push buttons. It facilitates easy DMX addressing as well as customization of the fixture's various operating parameters. The unit offers a choice of seven DMX Channel Modes (16 / 25 / 34 / 42 / 50 / 25 [CMY] and 28 [CMY]) and also boasts a USB service port, also located on the front panel, which can be used to easily load future firmware updates.

The Focus Flex L7 can be easily tailored to a user's personal preferences, or the specific requirements of a particular application, using a wide variety of customizable options. These include five selectable dimming modes (Standard, Stage, TV, Architectural, Theatre & Theatre 2), four selectable Dimming Curves (Square, Linear, Inverse Square & S. Curve) and adjustable Dimming Speed (between 0.1 and 10 seconds). In addition, the LED Refresh Rate can also be adjusted using 10 presets (ranging from 900Hz to 25,000Hz) to eliminate flicker for broadcast or video capture applications and fan speed can be limited (independently for the head and base) for applications where near silent operation is required. All these customizable parameters can be altered via DMX as well as directly from the LCD menu interface.

This small but mighty fixture has compact dimensions of 9.17" x 6.97" x 13.8" / 233mm x 177mm x 349mm (LxWxH) and a low weight of just 15.5lb (7kg), making it convenient to store, transport, and rig. Its small size will save valuable truss real estate while it's low weight will maximize the number of fixtures possible when the rigging load is limited. Rubber feet mean that the unit can be placed directly onto a stage or riser, while the supplied omega bracket can be easily attached to allow for truss mounting.

"This year ADJ has enjoyed a lot of success with our new range of wash fixtures utilizing high CRI lime-infused LEDs and the original Focus Flex has also proved to be extremely popular, therefore it was the obvious next step for our range to create the Focus Flex L7," explains ADJ USA's national sales manager, Alfred Gonzales. "Offering a small footprint, fast movement, powerful output, a wide zoom range, full pixel mapping and the vibrant output of lime-infused LEDs, it is a truly versatile fixture that I'm sure will prove popular with both our rental and integration customers. Naturally, this enhanced version of the fixture will come at a slight cost premium, therefore we will continue to offer the original Focus Flex, allowing customers to choose the fixture most appropriate to their particular needs."

The Focus Flex L7 is shipping now from ADJ distributors and dealers worldwide.
