Ken Billington Joins Faculty of Stage Lighting Super Saturday

Ken Billington will present two fantastic sessions at Stage Lighting Super Saturday.

The 15th Annual Stage Lighting Super Saturday workshop, continuing its practical and hands-on educational presentations, will take place on Saturday, February 1st, 2020 at The New York City College of Technology: Entertainment Technology Department, located at 186 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201. Super Saturday is produced by Scott Parker with the help of City Tech.

In "Mixing Color with LEDs and Movers," Billington will explore his methods of mixing color as we transition to and expand our use of LED lighting units in theater. Mixing color can vary drastically between brands or models of lighting units. Color pickers from one console to another can also vary as computer screens may have their own video calibration. His second session "Moving Lights, How Designers are Using Them" will discuss his use of automated fixtures, (aka moving lights) from his designer point of view. The use of moving lights run the gamut from simple refocused specials cued so the audience doesn't know they exist to full blown razzle-dazzle eye candy spectacle production numbers.

Billington has designed over 100 Broadway productions, including Act One, Chaplin, Hugh Jackman Back on Broadway, The Scottsboro Boys, Sondheim on Sondheim, [Title of Show], The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe starring Lily Tomlin, Footloose, Candide (1997), Annie (1997), Annie Warbucks, Inherit the Wind, Moon Over Buffalo, The Red Shoes, Fiddler on the Roof (1990, 81, 76), Lettice and Lovage, Tru, Meet Me in St. Louis, On the 20th Century, and Side by Side by Sondheim, among others. He has been honored with seven Tony award nominations and received the 1997 Tony Award for his work on Chicago.

The only event of its kind, Stage Lighting Super Saturday is a one-day intensive series of workshops that provide practical and hands-on educational training to benefit the interests and abilities of all involved in the application of innovative stage, architectural, and entertainment lighting. Intensive subjects include Stage Lighting 101 for those new to the art; the use of conventional long-established luminaires; the latest LED, and traditional Incandescent and Arc Source instruments; the implementation of color, special effects, mood, and scene lighting; and choosing among the myriad of helpful mechanical implements such as consoles, moving lights, computers, and many others. In addition to the workshops, there will also be an impressive manufacturer's showcase, featuring approximately 20 technical specialists, as well as manufacturers of superior equipment, which will demonstrate techniques and newly available cost-effective products. Among the present and past manufacturing contributors, all noted for their lighting expertise and practical implementation, are such stalwarts as A.C. Lighting, A.C.T. Lighting, ADB Stagelight, Altman Lighting, Apollo, Barbizon Lighting, Canto USA, Chauvet, City Theatrical, DraftyApp, ElationPro, ENTTEC, ESP, ETC, 4Wall, GLP, High End, Lee Filters, LEX, Lighting&Sound America, Nemetschek N.A. aka Vectorworks, RC4 Wireless, Robe, Rosco, Shadowstone, Selecon, Strand Lighting, and TMB, among many others. All new, aspiring, and advancing stage and event designers are invited to join this unique event on Saturday, February 1st, 2020 at The New York City College of Technology: Entertainment Technology Department located at 186 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201.
