Lightwave Productions Invest in First SGM P-5s

Lightwave Productions' P-5s illuminating Kings College Cambridge

London-based technical service company Lightwave Productions this month joined the growing number of rental houses worldwide who the company reports are finding SGM's P-5 LED wash light an indispensible part of their production inventories.

A lighting technician since his days at Bristol University, the company's founder, Henry Clarke, hopes that the P-5s -- which were supplied by SGM UK along with standard 43-degree lens -- will help build profile for his company as the summer season beckons.

"I realized we needed IP65 rated products for the outdoor events and it seemed pointless looking at old style 400W floods when the industry is moving towards LED," Clarke said.

As a freelance lighting tech, whose new company is now into its second year, Clarke recognized that the P-5 had all the attributes required after seeing them at the PLASA London show. "I had also used them previously with another production company and knew they were good," he said. "When Clive Bailey at SGM contacted me I decided it was time to buy."

"They are easy to deploy and will be useful both for stage washes and lighting building façades such as Kings College Cambridge [pictured]. I will also be using the strobing effect at a festival in May."

Clarke, whose company runs full event production services, also favors the fact that the P-5s have W-DMX built in. "The ability to control this fixture wirelessly is a huge advantage. They have a very low power draw and because they are IP65 rated require very little maintenance -- in fact there are many advantages over a standard 400W flood."

Finally, looking at the anticipated demand on the fixtures this summer, he also predicts great opportunities for dry hire.
