Vincent Lighting Systems (VLS) announced the addition of three summer interns to their staff, as part of the VLS Internship Program for 2019.

Renee Calo is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in theatre, with a focus on design/technical at Cleveland State University (CSU). She has served as assistant stage manager, stage manager and assistant production manager on several shows, both at CSU and other venues. Her theatre advisor, Russ Borski, describes her as smart and competent with a great capacity to master complex skills. Calo's goal to stage manage professionally, motivates her desire to understand every element of theatre, and she hopes to gain valuable knowledge and experience in lighting, during her internship at VLS. Calo will be working with all of the departments in the Cleveland office.

A student at Wright State University, Micah Hardman is studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in lighting design/technology. Hardman has gained experience as a lighting designer, master electrician, and lightboard operator on various local shows, both within and outside the Wright State campus. He has worked with VLS on a few shows before, and wants to continue to grow, both personally and professionally in the world of entertainment lighting. His theatre advisor, Matthew Benjamin, commends both his work and enthusiasm, and describes Hardman as pleasant, even when the stress of production is high. Hardman will be working in all of the various departments in the Cincinnati office.

Conal Klementowski is pursuing a Bachelors of Fine Arts in theatre technologies, with a focus on lighting and sound, at Kent State University. He has experience as lighting designer and programmer as well as assistant master electrician and master electrician at both Kent State and Rubber City Theatre. Klementowski describes himself as a technically minded person who enjoys the design aspect of the business. While interning at VLS' Cleveland office, Klementowski hopes to gain a better understanding of the process of the overall business of lighting. In addition to working with the VLS rental and production team, he will spend some time with field service, learning about systems integration and commissioning.

The VLS Internship Program was launched in 1987 and ran for many years. It was re-launched in 2018 and is designed to help build the industry working network, skills and professional development of aspiring professionals in the lighting and rigging industry. The program is a three-way partnership between the intern, Vincent Lighting Systems, and the educational institution that is sponsoring the intern. VLS is creating an environment for the intern, where they can gain knowledge and experience in all different facets of the lighting and rigging business, including project management, product and outside sales, rental and production sales and field work, shop operations, systems design, technical service, and finance.
