Learning and Growing with d&b at PLASA Focus: Austin

"I am constantly impressed by our industry's desire to learn. PLASA is an accessible forum for all of us to stay informed and connected," said Christopher Kulesa, head of education for d&b audiotechnik US, who recently attended PLASA Focus in Austin, Texas. Held September 10-11, 2013, Kulesa hosted a seminar entitled "Demystifying Audio" on behalf of d&b. "A smaller, regional show, PLASA Focus is great for beginners, professionals, and anyone inquisitive about audio. It's not about selling products, in fact, we try to keep our seminars as product neutral as possible. It's about developing relationships and continuing education."

"This type of conference offers a more personal and in depth experience for all of us," confirms Joe DiFalco, the d&b regional manager for the southwest United States. "The community atmosphere at PLASA Focus enabled us to spend more time with each specific question. We had ArrayCalc V7 set up in the d&b booth to demonstrate work flow and possible solutions based on individual needs."

The d&b audiotechnik ArrayCalc V7 simulation software allows accurate alignment calculations for both point source and line array sound systems. With design capabilities for up to five listening planes, compatibility with the full range of d&b loudspeakers, and easy export options to the d&b R1 remote control software, ArrayCalc V7 is suitable for a wide variety of audio needs.

"For those interested, we actually sat down and showed them how to adjust the software for specific venues," continues DiFalco. "Inputing dimensions and venue data can be done in about five minutes. Once we had a mock up, the conversation was able to move from concept to simulation. With ArrayCalc V7 we could test design possibilities for individual challenges, and compare various simulations through several selectable frequency bands. While each project is unique, d&b has a toolbox of solutions to experiment with."

"It's always important to participate in dialogue with other people who are passionate about audio," concludes Kulesa. "Sharing common problems, providing helpful solutions, and new ideas provides the opportunity for all of us to grow. As education is one of the primary goals at d&b, conferences such as PLASA Focus are essential."
