Luminex Previews GigaCore 26i at LDI 2015

Lminex GigaCore 26i Ethernet switch

Luminex Network Intelligence returns to LDI 2015 to preview GigaCore 26i, its new AV managed switch, and to introduce new functionalities for its flagship GigaCore and Ethernet-DMX range. Luminex will occupy booth 1972 in the Las Vegas Convention Center on exhibition days October 23 - 25.

"LDI attendees will be able to preview our GigaCore 26i Ethernet switch, which is designed for installation where port density matters," says Hugo Larin, national director/America for Luminex. "The new GigaCore 26i permits a great number of AV networked devices to be interconnected through the unit."

GigaCore 26i will offer 24 Gigabit ports on RJ45, including four shared media ports. Users will be able to select either the RJ45 or the SFP cages for fiber connectivity. Two additional SFP cages are also available for a total of six SFP cages providing extended fiber topologies.

A button on the unit's front panel permits users to select the parameter they wish to display on the LEDs, such as groups, PoE, RLinkX, and more. GigaCore 26i runs the same, easy-to-use web interface as the rest of the GigaCore range giving users full control of their network infrastructure and true peace of mind.

Luminex will also be releasing new Ethernet-DMX 4.2.0 firmware and GigaCore 2.1.0 firmware at LDI.

The 4.2.0 firmware brings new functionalities to the entire Luminex Ethernet-DMX converter range, what the company says is "one of the most powerful and versatile on the market." These products are used extensively worldwide from concerts to large-scale events. The new firmware includes support of the RTTrPL protocol, X Fade, and Output Limiter.

Support of the RTTrPL protocol (Real Time Tracking Protocol for Light) offers tighter integration with CAST's popular BlackTrax system. Users are now be able to merge control from their favorite lighting desk running Art-Net or sACN with the protocol from the BlackTrax system. Several projects around the world have already successfully used RTTrPL with the Luminex converters.

X Fade gives users the ability to cross-fade between two lighting sources through a dedicated DMX channel. For example, a user can now smoothly fade between the venue's house lighting controller and its lighting console. This can be done with any supported protocol, such as Art-Net, sACN, or RTTrPL.

The useful Output Limiter allows the main operator to limit or master the output value of particular channels when two lighting controllers have control of the same lighting fixture. This is especially helpful to limit the intensity of some fixtures in TV shows.

GigaCore's new 2.1.0 firmware includes the profile manager feature and IEEE 1588 PTP V2 support. The GigaCore range of Ethernet switches has proved to be the ideal solution for creating reliable and versatile AV networks in a matter of minutes -- without being an IT expert.

With profile manager users can now easily save or recall a profile and immediately see its content through the web interface. This offers an easy way to quickly recall a switch configuration while avoiding accidental reload of the wrong configuration, which leads to bad network performance.

IEEE 1588 PTP V2 (precision time protocol) support enables GigaCore switches to be part of the clock domain when using time-sensitive sound protocols, such as AES 67 or Ravenna. PTP implementation exemplifies the philosophy of the GigaCore switch: a very simple interface for users to select the mode they wish to use.
