COVID-19 Update: Hemsley Portfolio Review Cancelled This year's edition of the Hemsley Portfolio Review, held each spring in New York, has been cancelled. The exhibit typically features the work of over 35 graduating lighting students from design programs all across the country who display their work following a day-long review by professional designers, directors, and production personnel. A statement from the Hemsley Lighting Programs board says, "It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of the 2020 Hemsley Portfolio Review. In light of closings on Broadway, Lincoln Center, USITT, and many other performance events, we feel it wouldn't be wise to hold the review at this time. It is disappointing that circumstances will not permit us to provide an opportunity this year for the many talented young designers and professionals who would have attended. For this short term, we need to put the safety of our immediate and larger community first. For the last 16 years we have provided the portfolio review opportunity to not only honor the legacy of Gilbert Hemsley, but to celebrate the passion and creative energy that the participants and professional community bring to their work. We don't know what the future will bring, but we hope that we can find an alternate time in which the portfolio review can occur. All of us at the Hemsley Lighting Programs will work hard to make that happen."
