An Update from Backup -- The UK's Technical Entertainment Charity

John Simpson, Backup chair, presented DiGiCo's James Gordon, Ian Staddon, and Maria Fiorellino with the Platinum Donation Plaque at the recent Golf-Fest.

An update on current events and activities for Backup, the UK's technical entertainment charity:

"Its been a very busy few months not only from an events perspective, with Backup's inaugural Com-Fest and our ever popular Golf-Fest taking place, but we, as a charity have also been working hard to support our family with many awards of support being made to our members."

"As our charity starts to grow so does the knowledge that there is somewhere for people to go when they need support. This only works with generous donations from the industry and support for our events. So please dig deep, get involved where you can. Backup events always bring a smile to everyone's face and present a great opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues old and new, while supporting the industry we know and love."

"Kart-Fest 2018 is back with Chauvet helping drive the event forward and 'Wimbledon' named as this years theme."

"We are delighted to welcome Chauvet as our key partner for Kart-Fest 2018. Chauvet joins an amazing list of manufactures who have already committed to backup and supporting the work we do. We also welcome Creative Technology on board as one of our fantastic production partners as they join Autograph Sound, Unusual Rigging, Impact Production Services, and Media Lease as sponsors for Kart-Fest. Thank you to all those companies for supporting Backup."

"With July 5th sitting smack bang in the middle of Wimbledon fortnight it seemed the perfect theme to embrace. So bring out the big hair, the sweat bands, and the 70s tennis whites. There will be prizes for the best dressed and yes.....'we are serious'!!!"

"We have a great day planned with entertainment for all. This isn't just about the racing, there's plenty to do away from the track, including catching up with clients, manufactures, customers, suppliers, etc."

"On the day:
* 3 hours of racing
* The "Unusual" Pit stop challenge
* The "Media Lease" Fastest Lap
* Live Wimbledon tennis throughout the day
* Barbecue throughout the day and into the evening
* Live music
* Evening entertainment
* Chauvet "Pimms o'clock"
* 300 members of the live events industry all coming together"

"Team entry from the website gets you six drivers fully watered and fed plus all their racing. We also have non-racer wristbands with all food and drinks included."

"Teams already signed up: Ambersphere, Yamaha, Shure, AED, Chauvet, DiGiCo, Wonder works, Show force, Autograph, White Light, and more. Don't delay, we will sell out."

"Golf-fest 2018 raised £5,500. For Backup. The annual live events Charity Golf Day was held in basking sunshine and glorious temperatures and saw 16 teams compete for the ultimate charity golf day prize --bragging rights over the industry!"

"The morning session kicked of with the fastest hole by a team of four. With slightly different rules in play due to the wet course, a time of 1minute 30 seconds won the first prize, second place a mere 1 second behind, with the last place team (after time penalties) 5 mins 10 seconds. Good fun had by all."

"The afternoon golf saw DiGiCo supplying fun on the third hole with golfers trying to win a DiGiCo S21 console with a 'Hole in One.' Alas, no winners here this year (this will roll over to 2019), but again a big thank you to all those who took part and donated generously towards backup."

"With the teams back in from the golf and the barbecue in full flow, the scorecards were counted and the final three winning teams were:
1. Delta Sound
2. Autograph Sound
3. TAIT/Stage Technologies"

"Thank you to all involved including DiGiCo for all their hard work."

Taking place on Sunday, September 23, 2018, Velo South will take 15,000 riders of all ability levels on a truly unforgettable journey through the stunning West Sussex countryside, starting and finishing on the iconic Goodwood Motor Circuit and featuring the magnificent rolling hills of the South Downs National Park."

"Within the main ride will be a corporate team event entitled the 'Business 100,' designed to provide companies with an opportunity to bring employees, clients, and prospects together in a uniquely fun yet challenging physical environment. Aside from improving individual fitness levels, the Business 100 is guaranteed to provide a powerful engagement, networking and charity fund raising platform for your company."

"CT and WL have entered the 100 Club with all riders individually raising money for Backup. CT is generously donating two spaces on its team to Backup, so any of you budding cyclists out there would like to take part then please contact Alana Coyne at CT acoyne@ctlondon.com."

"DiGiCo has been acknowledged for its ongoing support of Backup -- the entertainment charity by being presented with the Backup Platinum Donation Plaque. John Simpson, Backup chair, presented James Gordon, Ian Staddon, and Maria Fiorellino with their plaque at the recent Golf-Fest."

"DiGiCo features on the Backup website donors page along with our many other generous contributors. If you are interested in making a donation to backup, please visit our Support page."
