Novolite Contest for Lighting Designers Features Clay Paky and MA Lighting

Participants in the Novolite contest for lighting designers in Latin America

With the slogan "It will soon be time to show that actions speak louder than words," the first ever Novolite MA Lighting grandMA 3D contest for Latin American lighting designers was held on June 25, 2013, in Peru.

The event was organized by Novolite, the exclusive distributor for Clay Paky and MA Lighting in Peru, under the supervision of its general manager Alarico Sanchez, with Daniel Ridano (area manager MA Lighting - Latin America) and the support of Francesco Romagnoli, (sales manager Clay Paky - North and Latin America).

A totally unique show was devised at the UNIFE Auditorium where 20 contestants, selected from the 50 candidates, from five Latin American countries, took the audience's breathe away with their lighting designs using grandMA 3D, that the company says is a powerful instrument that can visualize and create three-dimensional scenographic projects. The projects were managed using a grandMA2 and Clay Paky luminaires. All the projects were displayed on a 6m x 4m LED wall.

The winners were: Alex Tacora, from Peru, who came first with his theme "Chiquitita" by ABBA; second place went to José Fragundes, from Brazil, with his theme "You Like a Hurricane" by the Scorpions; and third place went to Sergio Naranjo, from Colombia, with his theme "Toxicity" by System of a Down.

One of the main features of this event was to provide a meeting place for all sector operators who had time to find out more about some aspects of their profession and to meet and to discuss with the top representatives from a range of different countries.

The jury, composed of Alaric Sanchez (Novolite), Daniel Ridano (MA Lighting), Francesco Romagnoli (Clay Paky), Paulo Lebrao and Mario Raez, underlined how difficult it was to choose the winners among so many top quality works oozing such passion. The winning light design managed to blend perfectly with the music and showed an excellent use of colors and artistic flair.

Romagnoli has launched the idea of organizing a second edition of this contest next year, inviting an internationally renowned lighting designer to the second Novolite event.

The event drew to a close with an open bar organized for the candidates, spectators, and representatives of the various brands and was a great opportunity to share their professional experiences.
