Learning a Key Feature as PLASA Focus Glasgow's Seminar Program Is Launched

PLASA Focus Glasgow seminar programm

The successful PLASA Focus Glasgow, returns to the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Center (SECC) on January 18 - 19, 2017, bringing with it an expanded program of seminars, panel sessions, console training, and equipment demonstrations to sit alongside the ever-popular Riggers Forum.

"This is an important year for PLASA and for the Scottish live events sector," says PLASA's events director, Chris Toulmin. "We hope our continued investment in the Scottish market, through our Focus events and its seminar program will reflect and support the Scottish government and VisitScotland's recently unveiled ten-year strategy to grow this sector."

Taking place across both days of the show, highlights on day one will include: Panel sessions led by audio journalist Phil Ward, who presents "Is Point Source Fighting Back?" an exploration of the varied applications of point source over line array, with some of the best examples coming from Scottish-based sound designers and "The New Front of House -- Using Tablets for Mixing" a look at when and where you should take advantage of iOS and Android as a mixing interface and when you shouldn't.

"Relights for Small and Mid-Scale Touring" is a panel discussion hosted by the Association of Lighting Designers focusing on the Scottish touring circuit, that investigates how lighting designers and the producing companies can give the smaller venues the tools they need to achieve the lighting designer's original vision.

Day one also plays host to the annual Scottish Riggers Forum, presented this year by Chris Higgs, Total Training and Harry Box, UK Rigging, who deliver another in their popular series of rigging seminars "Shouty, Shouty." Higgs says: 'We're delighted to be able to help support the Scottish rigging community in the same way as the Riggers' Forum does for our colleagues in Leeds and London. We've had a great turn-out in previous years and Harry and I hope that the event is marked firmly on the calendar as an annual event in Scotland."

On day two Dave Philips, Shure UK, presents, "Wireless Mastered -- RF and Digital 2016." From the digital TV switchover to the rise of mobile phone ownership the demand for a clean RF spectrum for wireless microphones is greater than ever. Join Philips as he uncovers the new RF landscape and why attendees should be looking at digital wireless systems as part of their arsenal.

Hot on the heels of their success at PLASA 2016 in London, Zoe Milton, The Association of Sound Designers, presents the highly informative and very entertaining session "Pin the Mic on the Actor" and will look at the many different options for mounting wireless mics and transmitters.

Ambersphere Solutions' Thor André will be running 90 minute practical demonstrations of the new MA Lighting dot2 lighting console. Taking place on both days, it will include hands-on instruction covering all the basic operational features of the dot2 console including how to control fixtures, create pre-sets and cue lists, as well as building chases and using effects.

Running alongside the show, The AV User Group regional meeting, lunch, and networking drinks will take place at SECC Glasgow on Thursday, January 19, 2017. While this is a member's event, all AV professionals are welcome to attend providing they sign up to the AV User Group.

PLASA Focus Glasgow is a free-to-attend two-day exhibition showcasing the latest technology used in live events, concerts, tours, theatre productions, venue installations, and leisure attractions. For show registration and to book your place on the seminar program please visit the URL below.
