Colour Sound Invests in Robe BMFLs

Colour Sound's Haydn Cruickshank with some of the new BMFLs

West London-based lighting and visuals rental company Colour Sound Experiment now holds the largest stock of Robe BMFL Spot moving lights in the UK with the purchase of 50 new fixtures, which have been delivered by Robe UK.

The new BFMFLs join Colour Sound's stock of over 800 moving lights of which around 450 are Robe products. They will be in action all over the country this summer, helping to service an impressive run of 60-plus major music festivals for which Colour Sound is already confirmed as lighting and LED screen supplier, including We Are FSTVL, Glastonbury, Creamfields, Reading / Leeds, and numerous others.

Says Colour Sound's Haydn Cruickshank, "BMFLs are starting to appear on riders. I know that any Robe product is likely to be reliable and 'a good bet' for us, and we also needed a new bright and versatile moving light for the festivals generally. The BMFL Spots are perfect for the larger stages."

The custom designed 1,700W BMFL Spot lightsource produces an incredible 220,000 lux at 5m with a CRI of 90/92 and is packed with features including a 5- to 53-degree zoom and a truly homogenized crisp, high-quality fat beam ... with no hotspot. It weighs just 36Kgs which makes it very manageable and a big hit with crews.

Cruickshank says he was impressed with the BMF's awesome brightness, the speed of the zoom, and the movement, as well as the smooth color mixing and the general overall scope of the unit. "To cover our range of work, we really needed something that was properly multi-functional," he comments.

With so many Robe units already in rental stock, he says it was also very logical to continue investing in the brand, a move that ensures good continuity in areas like color range between the different fixtures.

Colour Sound's previous major investment in Robe was in 2014, with the purchase of Pointes, CycFX 8s, and MiniMes. The company says it has an ongoing strategy of investment in key brands and products to ensure its diverse client base -- from major music festivals, EDM events, and tours to premium corporates -- can be offered the best, most innovative, and appropriate lighting and LED technology currently on the market.

Cruickshank also says he sees the value in BMFL Spots as cross rental items. "There's definitely a demand for them at the moment," he observes, adding that with Colour Sound's current full-on schedule it will be a while before theirs are available for work other than their own projects.
