Robe LEDBeam 100s for Prodigy at Download Festival

The Prodigy at the 2012 Download Festival

Lighting designer Andy Hurst used 96 of the new Robe ROBIN LEDBeam 100s as one of the central features of his rig for the UK-electronic dance music group The Prodigy's headline slot at the 2012 Download Festival, staged at Donnington Race Track near Derby in the UK.

"I really like the LEDBeam 100s," he enthuses, "They are super bright with great colors and amazing speed."

This was The Prodigy's only UK appearance this summer, so Hurst wanted to ensure that the visuals helped to etch indelible memories on the minds of all those at the festival. Prodigy, one of the most influential electronic acts in the world, is renowned as a loud, energetic, and innovative live act. Fans endured high winds, driving rain, bitter cold, and knee-deep mud to watch another show-stopping performance.

The LEDBeam 100s -- supplied along with the rest of Prodigy's substantial specials package by rental company HSL -- were all positioned on a series of 16m x 8m high curved ribs running along the back of the stage. These were staggered across three trusses to add depth and dimension to the stage area.

Hurst also used 16 ROBIN LEDWash 600s on the downstage edges of the stage to illuminate this area, which is where the band concentrates their performance.

HSL has the largest stock of Robe moving lights in the UK and has just added another batch of LEDBeam 100s to its rental stock.

Launched at Prolight+Sound Frankfurt earlier this year, the LEDBeam uses 12 RGBW LED multi-chips. It's small, affordable, carbon conscious, and exceptionally versatile as an effects light, the company says.
