City Smart Lights The Monarch, San Antonio, with MEGA-LITE Fixtures

The Monarch, a luxury hotel in San Antonio, Texas, features a similarly named installation created by City Smart Lights in collaboration with designers, engineers, and construction teams from China and Europe.

After two years of design, engineering, and fabrication, the installation recreates the wings of the monarch butterfly, a symbol of beauty, transformation, and movement. Measuring 70' long by 30' tall approximately, the structure is composed of more than 200 individual sections internally covered with stained glass featuring butterfly-inspired motifs.

The installation features a custom MEGA-LITE fixture, 408 of which were used for their ability to deliver soft, consistent illumination in the color tones required by the design. The fixtures help bring the installation to life, recreating the vibrant colors and delicate appearance of a butterfly's wings.

For control, the team utilized the Total Control Server and 52 Deco CV4 drivers running Enlighten software, providing flexibility and precision needed for the installation. MEGA-Lite supported the project throughout the process to help ensure optimal performance and seamless integration.

The Monarch installation joins a growing list of landmark projects completed by City Smart Lights featuring MEGA-Lite lighting solutions, including the Alamodome, the Henry B. González Convention Center, the Tower of the Americas, and the Marriott Hotel in San Antonio.
