Nominations Announced for 67th Annual Tony AwardsTony winner Sutton Foster and stage and screen actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson announced the nominees for the 2013 Tony Awards April 30 at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center at Lincoln Center. The Tony Awards will be broadcast in a live three-hour ceremony from Radio City Music Hall, on the CBS television network, June 9. Two new musicals, Kinky Boots and Matilda the Musical, earned 13 and 12 nominations, respectively, the most of any productions of the season. Two musical revivals also fared well: Stephen Schwartz's Pippin nabbed 10 nominations, while Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella received nine nominations. Leading the plays are the revival of Golden Boy with eight nominations, and the late Nora Ephron's Lucky Guy and Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, with six nominations apiece. Best Lighting Design of a Play nominees are Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer, Lucky Guy; Donald Holder, Golden Boy; Jennifer Tipton, The Testament of Mary; and Japhy Weideman, The Nance. Best Lighting Design of a Musical nominees are Kenneth Posner, Kinky Boots; Kenneth Posner, Pippin; Kenneth Posner, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella; and Hugh Vanstone, Matilda The Musical. Best Sound Design of a Play nominees are John Gromada, The Trip to Bountiful; Mel Mercier, The Testament of Mary; Leon Rothenberg, The Nance; and Peter John Still and Marc Salzberg, Golden Boy. Best Sound Design of a Musical nominees are Jonathan Deans and Garth Helm, Pippin; Peter Hylenski, Motown The Musical; John Shivers, Kinky Boots; and Nevin Steinberg, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella. Best Scenic Design of a Play nominees are John Lee Beatty, The Nance; Santo Loquasto, The Assembled Parties; David Rockwell, Lucky Guy; and Michael Yeargan, Golden Boy. Best Scenic Design of a Musical nominations are Rob Howell, Matilda The Musical; Anna Louizos, The Mystery of Edwin Drood; Scott Pask, Pippin; and David Rockwell, Kinky Boots. Best Costume Design of a Play nominees are Soutra Gilmour, Cyrano de Bergerac; Ann Roth, The Nance; Albert Wolsky, The Heiress; and Catherine Zuber, Golden Boy. Best Costume Design of a Musical nominees are Gregg Barnes, Kinky Boots; Rob Howell, Matilda The Musical; Dominique Lemieux, Pippin; and William Ivey Long, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella. The Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre will go to Bernard Gersten, Paul Libin, and Ming Cho Lee. The Regional Theatre Award will go to Huntington Theatre Company of Boston, and Larry Kramer will be awarded the Isabelle Stevenson Award. The Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre will go to Career Transition for Dancers; William Craver; Peter Lawrence; The Lost Colony; and the four actresses who created the title role of Matilda The Musical on Broadway -- Sophia Gennusa, Oona Laurence, Bailey Ryon, and Milly Shapiro.
