In devastating news for the world of dance, the New York Times is reporting that the Doris Duke Theatre at Jacob's Pillow, the storied dance festival in Beckett, Massachusetts, has burned down. It's one of two indoor spaces at the festival, which also has an outdoor stage.

The fire was reported around 7am yesterday and was put out by 9am, with firefighters from six neighboring towns taking part.

"It looked like what a bomb must look like when it goes off," Pamela Tatge, the executive and artistic director of Jacob's Pillow, told the Times. "It was just a pile of steel and wood. There's amazingly one wall and one staircase that remained." The cause of the fire has not been identified.

The festival immediately vowed to rebuild.
