Baxter Controls to Close

Baxter Controls, maker of the popular product The Pocket Console, is closing.

In a statement, the company says, "BCi would like to thank all of our Pocket Console customers for the past 20 years with a huge thank you for an excellent 20-year run of sales of thousands of Pocket Consoles, worldwide. 'Baxter Controls Inc.' and 'B C Illuminations,' otherwise known as BCi, Home of The Pocket Console DMX, announces the retirement of their two principal officers, Rob Baxter and Bryan Cheevers. And, with this, the subsequent wind-down of the manufacture and sale of the Pocket Console DMX and all its iterations. Anyone wishing to purchase a Pocket Console should do so now. There are fewer than 20 on the shelf, and then that's the end of the line."

Baxter has had a multi-faceted career across six decades and in numerous IATSE locals, working as a technical director, production manager, technical producer, stage manager, lighting designer, systems designer, system tech, dimmer rack/console assembler, master electrician, and production electrician in theatre, music, corporate theatre, and sports broadcasting. An ETCP subject matter expert, he has contributed to the creation of the portable power distribution exam for ESTA-ETCP/North America. He is also one of only a dozen or so technicians in North America who are quadruple-certified in ETCP electric and rigging.
