Door G Expands Virtual Production Capabilities with Brompton Tessera Processors at New England Studio

"By incorporating Brompton's Tessera processors into their virtual production studio, Door G is aiming to be at the forefront of innovation in this rapidly evolving space," says Moyle.

Brompton Technology has announced that Door G, an independent full-service Creative Production Studio based in East Providence, Rhode Island, has embraced Brompton Tessera LED video processors as critical to its virtual production workflow. Last year Door G unveiled its state-of-the-art studio designed to deliver innovative, accessible, and forward-thinking strategies to help bring global enterprise and consumer brands into an entirely new era of immersive brand engagement leveraging virtual production. Today, Door G is able to offer even more advanced capabilities with Brompton's industry-leading LED processing technology, the company says.

Door G's virtual production studio combines physical sets with digital environments, blended seamlessly on a massive "J-shaped" LED wall. Developed in collaboration with Brompton Technology and other industry-leading partners, Door G's virtual production stage also integrates with Unreal Engine to enable this sustainable and visually stunning storytelling approach.

Brompton's 4K Tessera SX40 processors were selected for their reputation as the industry's leading LED video processing solution, chosen for their precision and ease of use. The studio has installed three Tessera SX40 processors along with five Tessera XD 10G data distribution units to drive a massive 17m by 4m LED wall, constructed from INFiLED's flat DB 1.95 panels, with a central curve of flexible Xmk2 1.95 panels.

The LED display has been calibrated using Brompton's Hydra advanced measurement system enabling HDR capabilities, with Tessera software features such as Extended Bit Depth and Dark Magic enhancing image quality, particularly in darker scenes -- improving the overall results for clients.

Joe Ross, senior video technologist at Door G, shares, "When we were exploring options to significantly enhance our workflow, we were faced with challenges with shooting, especially when not using global shutter cameras. After seeing how Brompton LED processing improved results on a much bigger LED wall at other studios, we knew we had to make a change. Partnering with Brompton fueled our decision to significantly expand our virtual production studio, and our capabilities."

"Brompton was always high on our list and kept coming up during R&D. It's like the Cadillac of LED processing in the VP world. With their technology, we have the reliability, ease of use, and excellent support that a small team like ours needs to succeed."

One of the standout features of the Brompton Tessera software system, according to Door G's technical team, is ShutterSync. This allows the LED wall to automatically adjust to camera settings, eliminating the need for careful adjustments between shutter speeds and framerates.

Meanwhile, the studio is looking to integrate Brompton's Frame Remapping feature into its workflow, making it possible for multiple cameras to each see different content when viewing the same LED screen at the same time. Brompton's Hidden Markers and Custom Markers features are also being explored, opening up new possibilities for overlaying images in LED environments that are hidden to the camera.

Ross reveals how Brompton's 24/7 technical support played a crucial role in the studio's decision to choose their technology: "I had received training at Brompton's facility in Burbank and came back feeling much more comfortable about using the system," he says. "We've had a lot of customers come through to see the new facility, how much better the quality is, and how much easier it is to use. We've seen significant improvements in the quality and efficiency of our productions."

Door G is also the first creative virtual production studio on the east coast of the US to earn the esteemed "EMA Green Seal for Studios" by the Environmental Media Association, which recognises productions and studios that meet rigorous standards for sustainability in entertainment. For nearly two decades, it has been a mark of leadership and innovation across the industry. Environmentally-conscious brands and clients have embraced Door G's sustainable practices of innovative and highly efficient virtual production workflows.

"By incorporating Brompton's Tessera processors into their virtual production studio, Door G is aiming to be at the forefront of innovation in this rapidly evolving space," says Webster Moyle, technical sales manager at Brompton. "The advanced capabilities offered by Brompton's technology are a perfect fit for the studio's commitment to quality and efficiency, enabling them to push the boundaries of what's possible in virtual production. We're proud to support their journey and look forward to seeing the incredible projects that will undoubtedly be produced there."
