Boston's Salty Pig Restaurant Adds Audio Flavor with Diverse Selection of Harman's JBL Loudspeakers

Boston's Salty Pig restaurant with JBL

To provide outstanding coverage and audio quality to the newly renovated Salty Pig restaurant in downtown Boston, Massachusetts, GC Pro recently installed a variety of Harman's JBL loudspeakers, delivering pristine sound to the establishment without disturbing the conversations of patrons.

The Salty Pig, which is a structurally challenging building to work with, wanted a complete upgrade. GC Pro decided to go with a full Harman system so that everything worked complimentary to each other. "We designed the whole system from scratch," PK Pandey, senior account manager, explained. "The ceiling was not easy to mount anything and we did not want to mess with the integrity of the restaurant itself. With many reflective surfaces as well, it was a challenge deciding what products worked best. JBL, with their diverse selection of options, made our job easy."

Pandey installed seven JBL Control 67P/T full-range pendant loudspeakers in the main area of the restaurant, five CBT 50LA column loudspeakers around the outdoor patio area and two Control SB210 compact subwoofers, one indoor and one outdoor which allows both the CBT's and Control loudspeakers to work more efficiently without being pushed to the max. Also installed were five JBL Control 24C ceiling loudspeakers to provide sound in the bathrooms and alcove seating area. For amplification, four Crown XLS series amplifiers were installed along with dbx ZonePro 1260 system processing.

"The Control pendant speakers worked perfectly for the application," said Pandey. "They provide great coverage and allow us to better control the volume of the loudspeakers to provide customers with soothing background music while eating. The CBT's were easy to mount and their outdoor capability makes them the best option. We also don't have to worry about hot spots or distortion over time, especially in Boston where the weather can change every 10 minutes."

The install at the Salty Pig has also left room for an upgrade when the time is right with the ample power provided by the Crown amplifiers. "Everything is about the experience at the Salty Pig," mentioned Pandey. "It really is about the food and the customer experience and we wanted to provide the restaurant with a sound system that could be pushed to the limit if needed, but also allowed customers to sit back and relax and enjoy their meal."

The system has surpassed the restaurant's expectations, according to Pandey. "Going with Harman, I knew I had a great product selection to chose from," Pandey continued. "This turned out to be important when it became difficult to mount speakers in certain areas. Everything was extremely easy to connect and the dbx processing connected everything beautifully."
