Barnes, Fleischle, Gibbons, Henderson Take Olivier Design Awards

The Olivier Awards, celebrating its 40th anniversary, announced its winners on April 3 at the Royal Opera House in London.

Below are the design winners:

Blue-i Theatre Technology Award for Best Set Design
Anna Fleischle, Hangmen

White Light Award for Best Lighting Design
Mark Henderson, Gypsy

Best Sound Design
Tom Gibbons, People, Places And Things

Best Costume Design
Gregg Barnes, Kinky Boots

Autograph Sound Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music
Lin-Manuel Miranda (Music and Lyrics), In The Heights

The current revival of Gypsy, starring Imelda Staunton, which was originally produced at the Chichester Theatre Festival, took four awards, making it the big winner. The best play award went to Hangmen, by Martin McDonough, a production that is likely to end up in New York. Broadway's Kinky Boots was named best musical. The National Theatre production of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, by August Wilson, was named best revival.
