Projection Studio and Two's A Film Win Christie Special Mention Award

Ross Ashton, from London, UK-based The Projection Studio, and Himanshu Sabharwal, of Delhi-based Two's A Film Company, were guests at Christie Digital's 2011 Asia Pacific partners meeting, where their collaborative project to produce India's first permanent full moving image son et lumière -- ISHQ-e-DILLI -- The Love of Delhi -- won the Special Mention Award.

The awards ceremony was staged in the Reed Flute Caves in Guilin, Guangxi, China.

The Projection Studio was the technical, design, and installation consultant for the projection hardware and control elements of the project, and was also responsible for overseeing the creation of the project's show material, for which Ashton specified the first Christie 20K video projectors to be used in India for a son et lumière application.

Ashton said, "It's a huge honor for us to receive the award and a recognition of the truly groundbreaking nature of the work," which has stimulated a massive interest in the possibilities of large format projection in India.

The three projectors are housed in special hides and create an image 164' wide by 65.6' tall on the building, which is Purana Quila, a 16th-century fort founded by Mughal Emperor Humayun in 1533.

A major technical challenge was dealing with the multiple depths of field involved in using the fort as a projection surface, and making the content fit appropriately.

Ashton added, "I specified the Christies because they are bright and rugged enough to deal with the tough environment, operating conditions and the schedule of nightly shows." A Watchout control system was also chosen for its reliability and familiarity to the technicians who are maintaining the installation day-to-day.

The 40-minute show was commissioned by the India Tourism Development Corporation, a division of the Government of India.
