Back to the Future, Cabaret, Life of Pi Lead Olivier Award Design Nominations

The nominations have been announced for the Olivier Awards, which honor achievement in the West End theatre.

In the category of set design, Tim Hatley took two nominations: one shared with puppet designers Nick Barnes and Finn Caldwell for Life of Pi, based on Yann Martel's adventure novel, and another, with video designer Finn Ross for Back to the Future: The Musical. Other nominees include Derek McLane, for the London transfer of Moulin Rouge! The Musical, and Tom Scutt, for a revival, featuring an environmental staging, of the musical Cabaret.

Lighting designer Tim Lutkin also took nods, again for Life of Pi and Back to the Future. He is competing against Neil Austin for the Disney musical Frozen, and Isabella Byrd, for Cabaret.

The sound design category saw several familiar shows nominated: Carolyn Downing for Life of Pi, Nick Lidster for Cabaret, and Gareth Owen, for Back to the Future. The fourth nominee is Ian Dickinson for the thriller 2:22 A Ghost Story.

Costume design nominees include Jon Morrell, for a revival of the Cole Porter musical Anything Goes; Christopher Oram, for Frozen; Tom Scutt, for Cabaret; and Catherine Zuber, for Moulin Rouge! Cabaret is the leading production, with 11 nominations.

The awards will be given out on April 10 at Royal Albert Hall. You can find a full list of nominations at the URL listed below.
