Winners Announce for Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards

In the set design category, Richard Hoover won for House of the Rising Son, at Ensemble Studio Theatre - LA at the Atwater Village Theatre. He beat out Cameron Anderson, for A Midsummer Night's Dream, at South Coast Repertory; John Lee Beatty, for Poor Behavior, at Center Theatre Group at the Mark Taper Forum; Brian Sidney Bembridge, for The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, at Geffen Playhouse; and Michael Ganio, for A Raisin in the Sun, at Ebony Repertory Theatre at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center.

There was a tie in the lighting design category. Paule Constable's lighting for the new national tour of Les Misérables shared the honors with Jeremy Pivnick's work on House of the Rising Son. Also nominated were Patrice Besombes, for Iris, the Cirque du Soleil production at the Kodak Theatre, and Brian S. Shevelenko, for Jerry Springer: The Opera, Chance Theatre.

John Zalewski took the award for sound design, for Margo Veil, at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble and Evidence Room at the Odyssey Theatre. His competition included Mikhail Fiksel, for The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity; Casey Long, for Jerry Springer: The Opera; and 9 Circles, at Bootleg Theatre.

Philippe Guillotel won the costume design award, for Iris. Others nominated were Ann Closs-Farley, for Margo Veil; Tim Hatley, for the national tour of Shrek the Musical; and Garry Lennon, for Kiss Me, Kate, at Reprise Theatre Company at Freud Playhouse.
