Korn Drummer and Keyboard Player Take Aviom Personal Mixers on World Tour

Drummer Ray Luzier from Korn has been using an Aviom personal mixer on tour for the past couple of years. In 2013, when the band set out on tour after the release of their new album, The Paradigm Shift, keyboardist Zac Baird also added an Aviom personal mixer to his regular mix of gear. The band is now traveling the world for its 2014 tour with their Aviom personal mixers.

Drummer Ray Luzier says, "With the Aviom, I'm finally getting some control." Luzier's setup is a bit unique but not unusual for a touring musician who uses an Aviom personal mixer. Luzier uses the A-16R Rack-mounted Personal Mixer and A-16CS Control Surface with the help of his drum tech, Mark Bennett. Monitor engineer Stew Wilson sends 16 channels of audio to the A-16R for Luzier's mix. The A-16R is housed in the drum tech's rack at his station where he sits below the drum kit and to Luzier's right on stage. Here he listens to the same in-ear mix as Luzier and makes adjustments to the mix as needed on the A-16CS. With the drum tech's help using the Aviom personal mixer, Luzier gets a better mix, and Wilson can focus more on the monitor mixes for the vocalist and guitar and bass players.

That's even more true now that keyboard player Zac Baird has also started using an Aviom personal mixer. Baird says, "The Aviom has been great. Once I learned how to properly use it, everything made sense. My first show with the Aviom was one of my best in weeks, and I felt that a lot of this had to do with the Aviom. I'm so happy we get to use them." Baird also uses the A-16R and A-16CS. He travels with the A-16R racked in his own personal gear rack and adjusts his own mix using the A-16CS on stage.

Wilson and front-of-house engineer Marko Vujovic also welcome the addition of the Aviom personal mixers to the Korn stage. According to Wilson, "With Ray and Zac using the Aviom personal mixers, I can really focus my attention on the mixes for the other guys. Everyone is happy because they are getting a better mix."

In addition to the personal mixers that Luzier and Baird are using, the band has an Aviom16/o-Y1 A-Net Card for when they are using a Yamaha monitoring console. The band also uses Avid consoles and has an Aviom console card for these digital mixers as well.
