PROLIGHTS Lights Up Rabat Hockey Palace, Africa's Largest Ice Hockey Arena

	The most distinctive element of the installation sits above the center of the ice: a suspended cylindrical screen built with GammaPix 48T1X1WF LED panels.

The new Rabat Hockey Palace, considered the largest and most modern ice hockey arena on the African continent, now features a multi-purpose Olympic-size rink capable of hosting international competitions, concerts, and major public events.

EcmaPro Systems, PROLIGHTS' distributor in Morocco, played a key role in supplying and integrating the professional lighting solution deployed throughout the arena. The project was carried out by Axians and Cegelec, two VINCI Energies brands specializing in the design, engineering, and integration of complex infrastructure: the audiovisual division of Axians handled the installation of professional equipment across the entire site, working in close collaboration with the EcmaPro Systems team.

A venue built to alternate between international ice hockey, large-scale concerts and televised events required an extremely flexible lighting system. To meet these demands, PROLIGHTS solutions proved the suitable choice: 16 Astra Profile600IP moving heads and 48 ArcPod 48Q fixtures were installed on the suspended ring above the playing surface, arranged along the outer perimeter of the oval screen structure. Completing the installation, 12 Astra Profile1200IP moving heads were integrated on the inner perimeter of the structure, directly above the stands.

Each panel incorporates a curvature mechanism allowing concave or convex adjustment of up to 10 degrees, enabling the modules to follow the rounded profile of the drum; a 4.8mm pixel pitch and 3,500-nit brightness keep the image legible both under the arena lighting rig and in front of broadcast cameras. In total, the installation comprises 550 GammaPix 48T1X1WF panels, also used for the rink's scoreboards, giving the venue a single, coherent display system across multiple formats.

The arena has already hosted one of the most significant events in international ice hockey, the IIHF Men's Development Cup 2026, and with the lighting and video infrastructure now in place, the Rabat Hockey Palace is ready for every type of event on its calendar.
