GoVision Screens Add Sizzle to Walmart Shareholders Meeting

When thousands of Walmart shareholders arrived at Bud Walton Arena for their annual meeting recently, they were greeted by more LED firepower than they'd find at most professional sporting events or superstar concerts.

The three-day event, managed by Memphis, Tennessee-based LEO Events, was a massive undertaking, befitting the world's largest retail corporation. And, at the center of it all were LED video screens and monitors provided by GoVision, L.P., a premier, full-service provider of large-scale LED video displays and related services, including production, creative content, custom design, fabrication, and installation.

The arena stage was dominated by LED screens, from the floor -- comprised of three 15' x 15' 10mm VISS LED panels -- to the twin 37' x 21' chevrons suspended above, configured with state-of-the-art lightweight GV6 tiles. A pair of lower chevron screens -- each spanning 26.5' x 9' and also comprised of GV6 tiles -- flanked a 5' x 9' center screen that moved on a track to allow Walmart executives to walk out onto the stage.

Additional upstage GV6 screens measuring 34' x 12' flanked stage right and left along with a pair of I-MAG 27' x 18' GV6 screens.

"As you might imagine, Walmart goes all out when it comes to its shareholders meeting, and that gave us the opportunity to get very creative with a huge array of LED panels," said Brady Haass, vice president of client services for Argyle, Texas-based GoVision. "Working closely with LEO Events, we were able to design and deploy some truly awesome screen configurations that made every seat in Bud Walton Arena a great one."

The event, which began May 31, was part business, part celebration, so GoVision's elaborate array of screens required flexibility as well. James Corden of The Late Late Show emceed the proceedings, which included two days of business meetings and two evenings featuring major ticketed concerts.

During the daytime sessions, the upper and lower chevron screens lifted up to unveil such chart-topping stars as Katy Perry, Nick Jonas, Maxwell, and Jordan Smith. The chevrons were then removed prior to the evening concerts headlined by Three Doors Down, Daughtry, Goo Goo Dolls, American Authors, and Train.

Comedian Steve Harvey made a special appearance during the Associates Meeting on June 1, which was web-streamed live to allow all of the nearly 11,000 Walmart stores worldwide to tune in. A replica of Harvey's Family Feud set was built for a special company-themed staging of the game show.

"The GoVision team did a magnificent job, not only configuring the LED screens and monitors, but designing a stage that worked perfectly for both a substantive shareholders meeting and, in effect, a three-day, star-studded music festival to which the public was also invited," said David Kenyon, senior vice president of production for LEO Events. "Corporate events don't get any bigger than those done by Walmart, so everything had to be perfect. I'm pleased to say it was, and our clients at Walmart were extremely pleased with the entire production."

In all, GoVision provided 480 GV6 panels for the video screens and 243 VISS 10mm panels for the LED floor. Load-in began on May 23 -- a full week before the meeting commenced -- and the strike was finished on June 4.
