Closing Keynote Speaker Confirmed for PLASA Focus: Leeds 2013

Audio legend Tony Andrews is scheduled to deliver the closing session of the Professional Development Program on the final day of PLASA Focus: Leeds 2013 on Wednesday, May 1.

"It's About Time." That's the bold declaration posed by the founder of both Turbosound and Funktion-One, Andrews as he rounds off the Professional Development Program in style on Wednesday afternoon at 3:35pm. One of pro audio's true originals, Andrews has spent a lifetime creating ground-breaking loudspeaker systems for the live entertainment industry. A genuine pioneer who has never chosen to take the easy route or fashionable option, his singular perspective on exactly how and where pro audio goes from here provides the perfect end to PLASA Focus: Leeds 2013.

Joining him in conversation is industry journalist Phil Ward who has been contributing reviews and feature articles to the hi-fi, professional audio, music, and design trade magazines since the mid-1980s. He elaborates on Andrew's uniquely "holistic" approach to achieving a quality audio experience: "Unlike our other senses, the human ear is never 'switched off.' Its level of sensitivity is really quite astounding, able to distinguish separate events as little as 15 millionths of a second apart. So, human hearing has an incredible resolution of time events. This means, of course, that audio technology has got a lot of work to do to keep up! And digital audio has more to do than analog, because it already dissects this natural resolution with a series of binary compromises -- most of which use up a lot of time..."

From this initial premise, Andrews will discuss the issues and challenges facing the future development of pro audio in an informal atmosphere where the audience is invited -- and expected -- to join in with questions and comments throughout the session. For anyone who cares about the quality of the human listening experience and how audio technology can faithfully enhance it, this is an opportunity that must not be missed.
