JRLX Illuminates Mt. Joy Tour

Billboard Triple A Chart-topping indie rock band Mt. Joy kicked off their North American tour with a lighting package from Chicago based JRLX, Inc. including Robe MegaPointe and pixelPATT luminaires along with Elation CUEPIX WW4 Blinders, Chauvet R2 Washes controlled by a grandMA2 Full console in custom-fabricated JRLX "Mod Pod" touring carts.

Lighting designer Max Lenox of Wide Open Productions discusses the design intent, "My artist's main intention was to be immersed and silhouetted in saturated colors, with little to no front light. The biggest limitation would be having to get the entire rig on and offstage in a very short amount of time given that we also have several festival dates at Lollapalooza, Hinterland, and Firefly. It took a record 8-minutes to set up and strike this rather massive rig!"

JRLX COO and Mt. Joy account representative Kevin Rosenhagen says, "Working with Max and production manager Mitch Vanhoose on this tour was a very fulfilling process with the need to creatively merge his design into our "Mod Pod" touring carts whilst maintaining the goal of an expandable, impactful rig for these larger venues."

Lenox continues, "The design centers around the 'eye-candy' effects achieved by the Robe pixelPATTs and my assistant programmer Jason Giaffo and I were able to create a ton of unique patterns and effects with them. The GLP JDC1s and Elation CUEPIX WW4 Blinders are able to silhouette the band in during massive moments during the set and the ROBE MegaPointes are the workhorses of the rig that immerse the band in textures that wouldn't be possible without the absolute massive amount of output, zoom range, and beam effects onboard." The R2 Washes are mounted on custom rolling base plates that stow away in the main carts -- eliminating the need for additional cases.

On his experience working with JRLX for the first time, Lenox elaborates, "The JRLX Team has been a great support network while on the road. We had a short three week run to kick off the fall tour. I made a few notes (one of which involved custom fabrication). When I arrived at the JRLX shop in Chicago from my 6:00am flight from Nashville, not only did they have all of my notes taken care of, they had the entire package built in their prep space, ready for me to load my updated show file! They were even able to fabricate some custom fixture yokes for me in a very short turnaround. Their technical services director Andy Kloubec has helped me build this rig from the beginning, and I couldn't be more grateful for his help!"

Additionally, Lenox credits his business partner, Conner Ostrowski, for his help with pre-visualization, and plotting within Capture.

The Mt. Joy tour continues through December of 2021.
