Sixth Annual Stage Lighting Super Saturday Successful in New York Over 150 people, including attendees, faculty, and exhibitors, gathered at LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City for the sixth annual Stage Lighting Super Saturday. Sonny Sonnenfeld, co-producer of the event, said, "This was one of our best years yet. These young designers and technicians gained a better understanding of stage lighting at many different levels, from our introductory sessions right on through to the more advance material." The faculty lineup was headlined by Broadway lighting designers Ken Billington and Richard Pilbrow. Billington gave an inspirational keynote address. Pilbrow talked about his experience with Virtual Magic Sheet during his current production of Molly Sweeney which opened at the Irish Rep on January 30 and using Lightwright on his iPad. Rounding out the day were Rich Dale, Miles Dudgeon, John Gebbie, Bobby Harrell, Andrew Nikel, and Chip Scott, as well as newcomers: Kevin Lee Allen, Tom Casazza, Wendy Leudtke, James Smith, and Tom Stanziano. Scott C Parker, co-producer of the event, said, "This was a top notch group of people. We certainly plan on maintaining this caliber of faculty and for future Stage Lighting Super Saturday workshops." Super Saturday was held at New York City's LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts on Saturday, January 22. The all-day workshop presented fast-paced sessions including Lighting 101; conventional and LED lighting fixtures; the lighting design process;, color: how to use it; scrollers, gobos, and rotators; an overview of consoles from past to present; computer-aided design and paperwork; DMX technology; lighting for worship; remote-controlled battery lighting; and moving lights.
