Thea for Two Taigas as Princess Cruises Hippotizer-Powered Production Claims Award

Fantastic Journey on Princess Cruises

Green Hippo is delighted to note that the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) has honored Fantastic Journey -- the extraordinary theatrical show exclusively created for Princess Cruises -- with its Thea Awards of Outstanding Achievement (Thea Awards recipients were officially announced in November 2018). The 3D-mapped show pushed the technical boundaries, delivering 270-degree, 3D-mapped imagery and Green Hippo technology was at the helm, tracking the entire show.

Created, directed, and choreographed by Danny Teeson -- his extensive credits include choreographing American Idol (Live Tour) and Tom Jones' Sex Bomb video -- Fantastic Journey maps 270 degrees of the two-storey, palladium-style theatre aboard the Majestic Princess. Launched in 2017, Majestic Princess is the largest cruise ship in the Princess Cruises fleet, with space for 3,560 guests and a crew of 1,346.

Entertainment options form an increasingly influential part of today's cruise packages and the Fantastic Journey production sets a new standard for delivering an immersive and cinematic experience at sea. A pair of Hippotizer Taiga Media Servers -- the flagship model from the award-winning Hippotizer family -- run the show. SHAPE, the complete 3D projection mapping tool seamlessly integrated into Hippotizer, maps the stage using eight projectors, with VideoMapper controlling LED walls and PixelMapper controlling Pixel Tape on every accent of the set.

Green Hippo is absolutely essential here -- every scene has moving scenery and Hippotizer tracks everything, ensuring video transfers at exactly the correct time with millimeter precision and accuracy.

Princess Cruises turned to MODE Studios, the Seattle-based company, for the complete production design and Lanz Short, senior product specialist at Green Hippo, worked with MODE's Bob Bonniol -- chief creative officer and Pablo Molina -- interactive producer, providing invaluable support when it came to ensuring that the absolute best was extracted from the powerful Hippotizer Taiga Media Servers. The overall result, in addition to the prestigious award from TEA -- was a production so popular that it is now being rolled out aboard other vessels across the Princess fleet.

Reflecting on the project, Lanz commented: "Working with the MODE Studios team to help deliver Fantastic Journey was nothing more than a pleasure, we had beautiful scenery on set and offshore."
