dLive Honors Dutch Singer on 34-Date Tour

Jan De Rycke with dLive during soundcheck on the In the Shadow of Toon Hermans tour.

Belgian sound engineer, Jan De Rycke, has just finished the second leg of the In the Shadow of Toon Hermans tour, carrying an Allen & Heath dLive S Class digital mixing system, comprising a dLive S5000 Surface and DM48 MixRack.

"dLive sounds great and has a huge amount of processing power, flexibility, and useful plugins. Details like the selectable and steep HPF -- the most underestimated parameter on any sound desk -- and the gain reduction spectrograph, show Allen & Heath has got it right," says De Rycke. "Another main benefit for me is the full redundancy throughout the system, which is essential in high end live sound."

This leg of the tour visited 34 cities in Belgium and The Netherlands, celebrating the centenary of the birth of renowned Dutch comedian, singer and writer, Toon Hermans. The tour saw his friend and manager, Herman Van Hove, collaborate with singer, Lissa Meyvis. The dLive system was supplied by Allen & Heath's distributor, XLR.

"Working on dLive is fast and the touchscreens are very responsive but at the same time it offers enough buttons, faders, and rotaries so you are not forced into an 'ipad-touch-style' way of mixing. If you want to change EQ on the screen it's there, but personally I prefer the 12 dedicated EQ buttons, just like when I started out 17 years ago," continues De Rycke. "Running on 96K with 0,7ms latency while being buss aligned at the same time is another strong point. And then there's the expandability with five by 128ch slots, tie lines, IP controllers, and ME1's. In conclusion: dLive is amazing!"
