backup, the UK's Technical Entertainment Charity, Announces 2019 Events

Welcome to 2019 and what an event-packed year backup has planned! There's something for everyone to get involved in, so enthusiasts can either take up the challenge or roll up their sleeves and volunteer to help.

As always, the organizers do their very best to make our events a great day or night out for participants, colleagues, clients, suppliers, and partners, as well as a great opportunity to catch up with friends, both old and new, while raising funds for the industry's charity to help continue to support our family. Enjoy!

May 18th sees backup's inaugural Bikefest kick off with a day of two-wheeled action and fun planned to keep all levels of rider happy.

For the hardened lycra-loving "Mamil" (middle-aged man in lycra) backup organizers have a glorious 100km ride through the Sussex and Surrey country side which will take in much of the famed Olympic and Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 route, including Leith Hill, the highest point in Surrey, and the famous Box Hill Zig Zag. Whether participants are riding as an individual, with friends, or as a company Peloton, this will be a great day out to sport the finest padded shorts, have an excuse to shave those legs, and pack as many bananas in a cycling top as possible.

For the less lycra inclined, backup organizers are also running a 50Km route, again taking in much of the lovely Surrey countryside, but also a number of isotonic watering holes en route for participants to recharge their batteries.

Either way, participants will be bacon-sandwiched up before they set off and then given the route. Upon a triumphant return, food, drinks, prizes, and prestige await all.

This really is a day for the enthusiast as well as the leisure cyclist and family and friends are encouraged to join in.

Next up, get the biggest sharpie out of the drawer and put Thursday, July 4, in the diary in BOLD. Kartfest is back for its fifth year and it will be its biggest yet. After last year's Wimbledon theme, which was so wonderfully embraced by the industry, the date of this year's extravaganza has set the theme itself........ "Independence Day" it is!! So get the fake tan and the candy floss hair ready as backup organizers look to celebrate this special day with friends from across the ocean.

Expect all the normal fun, thrills, spills, and shenanigans, as well as downright blatant team ringers and financial incentives. As always, this event will sell out very quickly. Last year, all karts were sold two months prior to the event, so make sure to be ready to sign up when the doors open later in the year.

backup organizers are delighted to announce that for the second year running Chauvet has signed up as the headline sponsor for this year's Kartfest -- to partner for another great industry event.

After last year's evening of comedy at the National Theatre with the amazing Al Murray -- The Pub Landlord headlining, backup organizers confirm Comfest 2019 will be back in the autumn.

Organizers are currently planning the venue and line up, but they can reveal it will only be bigger and better. This is another great opportunity to come along with partners, friends, colleagues, clients, etc., for a great night of fun and laughter with the comedians given carte blanche to heckle the audience and vice versa!

Further details to follow throughout the year, so keep watching for backup organizers' updates.

In addition to backup's own events many of supporters are doing fantastic fundraising on behalf of backup with their own events / challenges. A shout out to the current events that backup organizers are aware of for 2019 so far:

Mongol Rally -- Two amazing teams (Team Backup and Team Nomadic Numpties) have entered the daunting Mongol Rally raising money for backup! Read more about this challenge on at plasa.me/unqpr and to support a team, view the teams individual fundraising pages below.

Many thanks to everyone who gets involved fundraising on behalf of backup!

As with all of backup events, the organizers "are incredibly grateful to everyone who gives up their time to help support us. We really cannot do it without you. As always, we're on the lookout for more volunteers prepared to donate some time and resource to support these events."

"We are particularly looking for volunteers to help support Bikefest 2019. If you think you can help with any of the below roles on Saturday May 18th then please do get in touch with backup via the email address below."

"If you feel you can donate your time, or know someone who can, please forward this on to them. All volunteers will be fed and watered and get the feel good factor of supporting your family! Please register your support to info@backuptech.uk."

"We hope there is something for everyone and look forward to seeing you all at the events. A big thanks in advance to everyone who takes part in some way or another and let's make 2019 an amazing year for backup in helping to support its family."
