Sew What? Inc.'s Megan Duckett Named 2012 Stevie Award Bronze Winner

Megan Duckett

Megan Duckett, president of custom theatrical drapes manufacturer Sew What? Inc. has been named 2012 Stevie Award Bronze Winner - Female Entrepreneur of the Year (Business Services of 11 to 2,500 employees).

This is the sixth honor awarded to Duckett and Sew What? as a Stevie Awards winner, having been recognized by the prestigious organization nearly every year since 2006 when it was named "Most Innovative Company of the Year - Up to 100 Employees."

Duckett's own path to success began as a 19-year-old Australian immigrant, launching her sewing business from the kitchen of her home, which ultimately led to her creating the theatrical drapes and stage curtains manufacturing company for the entertainment industry. Sew What? now produces custom and digital backdrops, custom scrims, curtain tracks, pipe and drape systems, and other soft goods supplies for stage, film, and television productions, as well as rock and roll tours, fashion shows, trade shows, and other special events. In addition, their sister company, Rent What? Inc., provides rentals of theatrical drapes, drops, curtains, and supplies to the entertainment and special events industries.

No stranger to business awards and professional recognition, Duckett has been awarded for her leadership and commitment to innovation by numerous industry and civic organizations. Recently, Duckett was named one of DiversityBusiness.com's 2012 "Top Business" awardees during that organization's National Business Conference. As a female entrepreneur she has become an in-demand speaker at business conferences coast-to-coast.

"This award by the Stevies organization is a great source of pride both for me personally and for Sew What? as a company," said Duckett on hearing of the honor. "In this increasingly competitive world, a business has no choice but to invest in the brainpower of its people and develop new technologies that improve the experiences of its customers. That's the philosophy that drives our company to work increasingly smarter every day. It's especially gratifying to me that the Stevie judges recognize our efforts because it signals a message that the status quo is not sufficient."

The Stevie Awards for Women in Business are the world's top honors for female entrepreneurs, executives, and the organizations they run. All individuals and organizations worldwide are eligible to submit nominations -- public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small. The 2012 awards received entries from 17 nations and territories.
