The Centre for Education and Cultural Initiatives in the Polish city of Olsztyn recently underwent a modernization program which included the development of a new concert hall at the venue. There has been a cultural center on the site since the 1940s, inspiring a wide range of activity in the region including concerts, meetings, poetry readings, performances, workshops, and training sessions. The inauguration of the modernized Centre was timed to take place to coincide with International Firefighters' Day, and presented a state-of-the-art facility for the twenty-first century.

Audio specialist Tommex was engaged to install range of technical systems, one of which was a new stage audio system for the flexible, multi-purpose hall. With a seated capacity of 414, the hall's seats can be removed to create standing room for 700. As a multifunctional hall used for concerts, theatre and conferencing, the facility required clear, powerful audio to meet a variety of requirements. Tommex designed and installed a front of house system based on CODA Audio's N-RAY Line Array which delivers complete coverage for whichever way the venue is configured.

N-RAY places the benefits of CODA's flagship AiRAY technology into a shallow, lightweight cabinet perfect for theatres, performing-arts centers and corporate events. N-RAY is part of CODA's latest N-Series, a range of lightweight, compact systems with the efficiency and power to rival much larger and heavier loudspeaker systems. N-RAY offers a variable horizontal coverage of 90°, 120°, or asymmetric 105°, a linear phase response for superior fidelity and variable vertical curving 0°, 1°, 2°, 3°, to 12° in 1° steps.

The new main front of house system at the Centre comprises 8 x N-RAY line-arrays and 2 x SCN-F low frequency extensions per side with 4 x D5 CUBE front-fills to reinforce the sound in the first rows of the auditorium. A further 2 x SCV-F subwoofers were supplied, and can be added to the system as required. CODA Audio's CUE Series was deployed for stage monitoring with the very compact CUE FOUR selected for its versatility and flexibility.

Tommex commercial director Marcin Zimny comments: "This was our first installation of CODA Audio N-RAY. It was chosen for its fantastic ratio of size to performance, while its ability to provide asymmetrical coverage helped us overcome reflections from the Centre's walls. The client is very happy indeed with the new system which comfortably meets all the venue's requirements with headroom to spare."

David Webster, global marketing director for CODA Audio adds: "We're delighted to see Tommex deliver their first N-RAY installation in Poland. I've no doubt that it will be the first of many such installs in similar environments as customers become increasingly familiar with the advantages it can bring to often challenging spaces."
