Austrian Audio Launches OC-B6 Large-Diaphragm Condenser Bass Drum Mic

The 1" CKR6-B large-diaphragm true condenser capsule is purpose-built to withstand and reproduce extreme sound pressure levels.

At this year's NAMM Show (January 21-24, in Anaheim) Austrian Audio introduces its first large-diaphragm condenser bass drum microphone. The company says it has achieved something long thought impossible: integrating a large-diaphragm capsule into a compact, stage-ready design capable of handling extremely high SPL while delivering the pure, unprocessed sound of the instrument and the new CKR6-B capsule.

Despite housing a large-diaphragm capsule, the OC-B6 remains extremely compact. Based on Austrian Audio's original swivel joint design (introduced with OD5 and OC7), it offers 220-degree rotation for maximum flexibility and accuracy in micing up any bass drum.

The OC-B6 can handle virtually unlimited maximum SPL, the company says. The "B" version of the CKR6 capsule doubles the distance between diaphragm and electrode and features a lower-tuned resonance frequency.

The 1" CKR6-B large-diaphragm true condenser capsule is purpose-built to withstand and reproduce extreme sound pressure levels. The design features an open acoustic technology for top-tier performance in a compact form factor. An optimized subsonic filter eliminates acoustic content below 18Hz, reducing infrasound that could otherwise limit available headroom in the mix. Features include fully discrete electronics, with no integrated chips, ensuring ultra-fast transient response and exceptional clarity. Every capsule and mic is hand-built and individually measured in Vienna, Austria.

Whether placed just inches from the beater, near the resonant head, or positioned in front of the drum, the product delivers outstanding sonic results, the company says.

With the release of the dedicated OC-B6 kick drum microphone, Austrian Audio introduces the Drum Microphone Kit DMK1, a complete, professional solution for miking an entire drum set, onstage and in the studio. The company says it is only drum microphone kit on the market to feature seven condenser microphones, three of which are large-diaphragm condenser mics, and one dynamic mic, all securely housed in a compact, rugged, waterproof case.

Included are one OC-B6, two OC18s, one CC8, three OC7s, one OD5, four DPH12 drum holders, and windscreens for OC18 and CC8 for outdoor use.
