Notch Announces MacOS Support for High-Performance Video Codec NotchLC

Notch, the creator of the real-time tool for interactive motion graphics of the same name, has today made its highly acclaimed GPU-accelerated video codec NotchLC available for macOS for the first time, bringing encode and decode support to more users than ever before.

The update is available for download today.

The NotchLC codec is developed specifically for visual effects and has been widely adopted by the professional media server industry, including TouchDesigner, disguise, Ventuz, and Picturall by Analog Way. In addition, PIXERA by AV Stumpfl will support NotchLC in its next release.

NotchLC for macOS incorporates plugins for Adobe Media Encoder, After Effects, and Premiere, making it easier than ever for cross-platform teams to integrate high-quality, high-performance 10-bit equivalent video quality into their workflows.

The macOS NotchLC implementation uses the native Metal GPU API for maximum performance and compatibility. The full SDK now features native DirectX, Metal, and OpenGL GPU API implementations, making it more portable than ever.

NotchLC combines high structural integrity in detailed images (rivalling ProRes 4444) and 12bit luma accuracy, with lightning-fast GPU encoding (up to nine times faster than HAP) and decoding. This makes it a best-in-class media server playback codec, capable of playing back 24 simultaneous streams of 4K (30 FPS) video.

Luke Malcolm, director of Notch, commented: "Making NotchLC available to macOS users has been one of our most requested features and we're excited to be able to offer it for the first time. As always, NotchLC remains free to use and royalty-free for anyone who wants to integrate playback into their products."
