LumenRadio at Historic Amerongen Castle, the Netherlands

LumenRadio's CMRX Slim was recently used for an extensive wireless installation at Amerongen castle in the Netherlands on a site that has been occupied by a castle for over 700 years. The current structure from the 1670s re-opened its doors to the public again on July 1 after a 10-year renovation process that included installation of state-of-the-art lighting and multimedia systems.

Every room in the castle is now equipped with energy efficient LED lighting, projections, and A Day in the Life of the Castle.

The multimedia show was created by Dutch theatre producer Saskia Boddeke and British filmmaker Peter Greenaway. The technical and practical realization was a collaboration between Rolight, LumenRadio's distributor in the Netherlands; Philips Lighting; Lichtpunt Theatertechniek; and Maarten Warmerdam, from lighting design firm Theatermachine.

Philips Lighting's chief design officer, Rogier van der Heide, utilized LumenRadio CRMX Slim units to distribute DMX and DALI throughout the installation. The fragile and protected historic interior restored to its 17th century look presented a challenge with its limited opportunities for control wiring. An extensive and reliable wireless system became an important element in the design process and enabled the technology to support the content of the show yet remain invisible to the audience.

"We add value to the entertainment experience in the castle by supporting the story with our solutions," says van der Heide. "The lighting in the castle's various rooms enhances the ambience and storyline of the movies. This creates an exciting interaction that is relevant for the visiting public. And that's how technology should always be applied - in a meaningful way."
